China-Laos Railway cross-border cargo totals 1.8 mn tons in Nov 2022

Cross-border cargo transported via the China-Laos Railway totalled 1.8 million tons and was valued at 12 billion yuan (around $1.7 billion) in November 2022. The overall quantity of freight carried over the China-Laos railway route had crossed 10 million tons in the same period, according to China Railway’s Kunming bureau.


“The international freight trains of the China-Laos Railway make the logistics transportation between the two countries fast and cost-controllable. Since the opening of the railway, its freight transportation volume has increased month by month,” Xu Jiefeng, director of the marketing department of Kunming East Railway Station, was quoted as saying by Chinese media reports.

Currently, international freight trains from 25 provincial-level regions in China are being operated on the China-Laos Railway. Countries that utilise freight transportation services on the railway route include Singapore, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.


The China-Laos Railway is over 1,000 km long and connects Yunan province’s capital Kunming to Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
