Ponte roma knit is a combination of rayon, polyester and spandex. The thick, double-knit fabric provides a two-way stretch; it moulds to your body shape while providing a smooth and streamlined silhouette. You will find it is easy to sew, as it is a stable knit, and it is less stretchy than many other jersey dress fabrics. The pattern for a stable knit would have extra ease added to ensure ease of movement when the garment is worn. A good example of a stable knit is a ponte roma.

Ponte, or Ponte di Roma as some refer to it is a medium-heavy weight knitted double jersey, often strong and with a good stretch. You can use ponte for many dressmaking purposes, such as dresses, skirts, jackets, trousers, tops and cardigans. It's very soft and sturdy fabric which can be used to make a wide variety of garments. The width of Ponte roma is usually 59'' to 65 wide and usually has 4 way stretch. It can be found in lightweight, midweight and heavyweight varieties.
