Ponte knit fabric has a double knit construction. It is heavier and sturdier than jersey knits. It stands more so away from your body and is easier to sew with than other knits due to its stability. In most cases, cotton or polyester blend Ponte knits are soft and have more drape than compared to rayon blends. Ponte Roma knits can be 4 way stretchable when it is combined with spandex yarn like Elastane or Lycra and also it can be 100% cotton or cotton blended yarn with other materials like polyester, viscose or something else. Solid and yarn-dyed melange are all workable for Ponte Roma.

Ponte roma knit is a combination of rayon, polyester and spandex. The thick, double-knit fabric provides a two-way stretch; it moulds to your body shape while providing a smooth and streamlined silhouette. You will find it is easy to sew, as it is a stable knit, and it is less stretchy than many other jersey dress fabrics. The pattern for a stable knit would have extra ease added to ensure ease of movement when the garment is worn. A good example of a stable knit is a ponte roma.
